AutoDS simplifies the entire process by automating product imports, pricing updates, order fulfillment, and tracking, so you can focus on growing your business instead of managing repetitive tasks.
Understanding how to set up your account correctly from the beginning helps you avoid common mistakes, choose the right tools for your business model, and start selling faster.
This guide walks you through everything you need to launch your dropshipping business with AutoDS, from account registration to essential features that help you scale.
Understanding AutoDS's role in your dropshipping business
Before you begin, it's essential to understand what AutoDS is and what it is not, to avoid confusion as you set up your business.
What AutoDS is:
AutoDS is a cloud-based dropshipping automation platform. It is a software tool designed to help you manage your dropshipping business more efficiently by connecting you to suppliers and automating repetitive tasks such as product imports, price monitoring, order placement, and tracking updates.
What AutoDS is NOT:
AutoDS is not a supplier. AutoDS does not own, store, or ship any products. We do not maintain inventory, and we are not responsible for product quality, packaging, or delivery times. These responsibilities belong to the suppliers you choose to work with (such as AliExpress, Amazon, Walmart, and others).
How it works:
When you sell a product in your store, you purchase it from a third-party supplier (like Amazon or AliExpress), and the supplier ships it directly to your customer. AutoDS helps you manage this process by offering different levels of automation for placing orders, updating tracking information, and monitoring stock and price changes. You can choose between:
Fulfilled by AutoDS (FBA): : Full automation where AutoDS handles order placement, tracking updates, and returns management on your behalf.
Auto-Order with Full Automation or Semi-Automation: AutoDS places orders automatically via your own buyer account, or only updates tracking information while you place orders manually.
Manual Orders: You handle everything yourself without automation. AutoDS only helps you monitor products and import listings.
While AutoDS is not a supplier, we do offer the AutoDS Marketplace feature. This is a product discovery tool inside your AutoDS account that allows you to browse, filter, and import profitable products from trusted suppliers directly into your store with just a few clicks. The Marketplace does not mean AutoDS owns these products, but it makes it easier for you to find and source them from external suppliers.
Dropshipping basics
Before diving into account setup, it's important to understand how dropshipping works and what makes it an attractive business model for beginners.
What is dropshipping and how does it work?
Dropshipping is a retail fulfillment method where you sell products without keeping them in stock. Instead of purchasing inventory upfront, you only buy products from suppliers after customers place orders in your store.
How dropshipping works with AutoDS (example with Shopify):
You upload a product to AutoDS from a supported supplier, and it appears in your Shopify store.
A customer places an order on your Shopify store.
You receive the payment directly in your Shopify account.
You purchase the product from a supplier (e.g., AliExpress, Amazon). You can use AutoDS automation (FBA or Auto-Order) to save time and effort.
The supplier ships the product directly to your customer. You don't need to handle inventory or shipping.
Once shipped, a tracking number is provided. If you're using automation, AutoDS updates tracking info in your store automatically.
This model eliminates the need for warehouses, reduces financial risk, and allows you to start selling with minimal upfront investment.
Benefits of dropshipping
Dropshipping has become one of the most popular online business models because it offers significant advantages:
Low risk: You don't need to invest in stock before making sales.
Easy to start: Anyone with a laptop and an internet connection can begin.
Flexible: You can test different products and niches without major commitments.
Scalable: Add more products and expand into new markets as you grow.
Time-saving with automation: Tools like AutoDS handle product imports, pricing, order placement, and tracking updates for you.
These benefits make dropshipping an ideal entry point for entrepreneurs who want to start an online business without the complexities of traditional retail.
Steps to start dropshipping with AutoDS
Follow this step-by-step guide to set up and start dropshipping with AutoDS quickly.
Step 1: Choose your selling channel
Choosing your selling channel is the first step in setting up your dropshipping business.
AutoDS supports multiple platforms, including marketplaces such as eBay, Amazon, and Etsy, as well as e-commerce platforms like Shopify, Wix, and WooCommerce.
Each platform has its own advantages, challenges, and requirements. Understanding these differences helps you make an informed decision that aligns with your experience level, budget, and business goals.
Marketplaces (easier for beginners, built-in traffic):
eBay API: Sell on a large marketplace with built-in buyer traffic and full automation.
Amazon: Target a high-volume, global marketplace with built-in buyer demand.
Facebook Marketplace: Leverage your social media presence to drive sales.
Etsy: Sell handmade, vintage, or artistic goods to a niche audience.
TikTok Shop: Use short-form video content and influencer marketing to drive product interest.
E-commerce platforms (full branding control, requires marketing):
Shopify: Build a custom online store with full branding control and highly scalable features.
Wix: Easy drag-and-drop online store setup for beginners or small businesses.
WooCommerce: Complete control over a WordPress-based store for tech-savvy users.

How much do I need to start dropshipping with AutoDS?
To start your dropshipping business with AutoDS, the initial costs involved are:
Selling channel fees: Platforms like eBay charge seller fees, and Shopify requires a subscription.
AutoDS subscription: Needed to access automation, product imports, and tracking.
Auto-Order credits: If you choose to automate orders, you'll need credits to process them.
Marketing: Essential if you're selling on channels like Shopify or TikTok, where you must drive your own traffic.
Here’s an example of your potential monthly investment when starting with dropshipping:
Selling channel monthly cost: $29.00
AutoDS subscription: $19.90
Auto-Order credits: $39.90
Marketing budget (paid advertising): $200.00
Total estimated monthly investment: $288.80
Note: If you want to minimize costs, it’s important to choose your selling channel carefully.
Platforms like Shopify don’t come with built-in traffic, so you’ll need to invest time and money in marketing methods such as SEO or paid advertising.
Marketplaces like eBay or Facebook Marketplace, on the other hand, already provide built-in traffic, which can help reduce your initial marketing efforts.
Step 2: Discover features to grow your business
After registering, the next step is getting familiar with the AutoDS platform.
In addition to product imports, price updates, stock monitoring, and order fulfillment automation, our platform offers several features designed to support you on your dropshipping journey, allowing you to save hours of manual work every day and focus on growing your store.
Check some of our features designed especially for our users:
1) Product research and sourcing tools
AutoDS offers several powerful tools to help you with your product research, discover trending items, analyze the competition, and import products quickly.
AutoDS Marketplace: A feature created for product discovery, which you can find in your AutoDS account. It allows you to browse, filter, and import profitable products from trusted suppliers directly into your store with just a few clicks.
Note: The Marketplace does not mean AutoDS owns these products, but it makes it easier for you to find and source them from external suppliers.
Product Finding Hub: An add-on that offers you access to three product research tools inside your AutoDS account: Trending Products, Hand-Picked Products, and Ads Spy. These tools use data to show you what's selling well right now, what successful dropshippers are promoting, and which products have high profit potential.
AutoDS Sourcing Service: A service where AutoDS finds better deals on products for you. You submit a product and request the sourcing service, and AutoDS offers you multiple quotes from different suppliers. This allows you to compare pricing, shipping times, and product quality across various options, enabling you to determine if there's a better deal for your business.
Note: AutoDS doesn't own the products.
Print-on-Demand (POD): A feature that lets you sell custom-designed products (like t-shirts, mugs, phone cases) without holding inventory. You choose a product from the available options (like t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, tote bags, phone cases, and other apparel or accessories), and upload your own design. When a customer places an order, the POD supplier prints your design on the product and ships it directly to them. AutoDS connects you with POD suppliers and automates the entire process, from importing your custom products to fulfilling orders.
Note: You must create your own designs. AutoDS does not provide design services.
AutoDS Helper Chrome Extension: A browser extension that makes importing products faster. Instead of copying product links and pasting them into AutoDS, you can import products directly from supplier websites (like Amazon and AliExpress) with one click. It also allows you to quickly copy customer addresses when placing manual orders and extract product data for bulk uploads. Check the article to learn more.
2) AI-powered tools
AutoDS includes AI tools that help you create product listings and ads faster. These tools use AI credits, which you purchase separately from your subscription.
Available AI tools:
AI Product Page Templates (Shopify only): Generates complete product pages with titles and descriptions automatically. Costs 99 AI credits per product.
AI Rewrite: Improves existing titles and descriptions. Choose the tone (professional, fun, or social media) and what to rewrite (title, description, or both). Variable credit cost.
Ads Text Generator: Creates ad copy for TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram with multiple text variations to test. Costs 25 AI credits per generation.
CreateUGC (AI Video Ads): A separate add-on ($39.90/month) that creates video ads using AI avatars. Paste a product link and get marketing videos without filming.
Click here to learn more about all AutoDS AI tools.
3) Price optimization
Setting the correct prices is crucial to make a profit in dropshipping. AutoDS offers the possibility to automatically adjust your prices to stay competitive and profitable, even when supplier costs change.
What AutoDS does:
Tracks supplier price changes: When your supplier's price changes, AutoDS automatically updates your store prices to maintain your profit margin.
Adjusts prices based on sales performance: Increase prices on products that sell well and lower prices on slow-moving items to improve sales.
Applies psychological pricing (Shopify only): Automatically rounds prices to .99 (like $19.99 instead of $20.00) to increase conversions.
Customize pricing per supplier: Set different profit margins, fees, and rounding rules for each supplier you work with.
Tip: Smart pricing automation grows revenue while saving time on manual price adjustments.
To learn how to configure your pricing settings properly in AutoDS and maximize your profit margins, read this article.
4) Product monitoring
Product monitoring in AutoDS helps you avoid selling products that are out of stock or have become too expensive to fulfill profitably. You configure the rules (like minimum stock levels or maximum shipping days), and AutoDS applies them automatically by checking supplier prices and stock multiple times per day.
What AutoDS monitors:
Stock levels: When a supplier runs out of stock, AutoDS automatically sets the product to "Out of Stock" in your store to prevent overselling.
Price changes: When supplier prices increase or decrease, AutoDS adjusts your store prices to maintain your profit margin.
Shipping times: If delivery times exceed your maximum threshold (e.g., more than 30 days), AutoDS pauses the listing to avoid late deliveries and customer complaints.
Note: Product monitoring scans in AutoDS happen multiple times per day, but they are not in real-time. This means there can be a short delay between when a supplier changes their price or stock and when AutoDS detects it. To protect yourself from losses during these gaps, consider using the Maximum Loss setting or increasing your profit margins.
To learn how to configure these settings step-by-step and customize them for each supplier, read this article.
4) Filter and bulk edit your active listings
As your store grows and you start managing more products, AutoDS offers filtering and bulk editing tools to help you work more efficiently. Instead of editing products one by one, you can make changes to hundreds or thousands of listings at once.
What you can do:
Filter products by stock status, profit margin, upload date, sales activity, region, or custom tags to find exactly what you need.
Create custom tags to group similar products (e.g., "summer collection" or "high margin items") for easier management.
Apply bulk changes to profit margins, fees, templates, shipping policies, and more across multiple products in just a few clicks.
When is this useful?
This becomes essential when you're managing hundreds of products and need to make quick updates, like adjusting prices for a seasonal sale, changing shipping policies for a specific region, or updating templates across your entire catalog.
Click on the links to learn how to apply bulk actions to products and drafts, orders, and buy accounts in AutoDS.

Common issues during registration and how to fix them
If you encounter any issues during registration in AutoDS, the following table provides common issues and their solutions:
Issue | Workaround |
Need to give someone else access, but the account was created with Google sign-up | Add the person as a VA user to grant them access without changing the main account email. |
Subscription payment fails or is declined | Re-enter details, try another payment method, or contact your bank. |

If issue with trial showing full price persist, contact AutoDS support for assistance. |
Need more than 10K listings | Click "Contact Sales" to request a custom plan. |
Step 4: Choose suppliers and upload products to your store
Before uploading products into your store, it's essential to choose the right supplier and configure your supplier settings in AutoDS. This preparation saves time and prevents confusion later.
AutoDS supports a wide range of suppliers from which you can import and upload products to your store, giving you the flexibility to source items from various locations and compare options to find the best fit for your business needs.
How it works:
You don't buy products from AutoDS. You source them from external suppliers, such as Amazon, AliExpress, Walmart, and others. AutoDS helps you import these products into your store and automatically monitors them for price and stock changes.
Important: Always import products through AutoDS (not directly from your selling platform) so they can be monitored and automated. AutoDS won't track products uploaded directly to your store and can't use automation features.
When choosing your supplier, you must consider:
Shipping location: Start with suppliers that ship from your region (US suppliers for US stores, UK suppliers for UK stores). International shipping is more complex due to longer delivery times and higher costs.
Automation support: Not all suppliers work with AutoDS automation features like FBA or Auto-Order. Check which suppliers support the order processing method you want to use.
Shipping policies: If you plan to sell internationally, you'll need to create different shipping policies for each region, as costs and delivery times vary.
Tip: Decide early how you want to handle orders. This will help you set up your business smoothly from the start.
Supported suppliers and upload requirements
AutoDS integrates with numerous suppliers across different regions, allowing you to upload products from their catalogs directly to your connected selling channels.
The platform supports over 25 suppliers, including:
US-based suppliers: Amazon US, Walmart, Home Depot, Target, CJ Dropshipping US warehouse, Banggood US warehouse.
International suppliers: AliExpress (multiple regions), Amazon (multiple countries), eBay (multiple regions).
AutoDS services: AutoDS Marketplace, AutoDS Sourcing Service.
Tip: Choose suppliers that ship to your target market. If you're selling in the US, prioritize US-based suppliers to reduce shipping times and costs.
Step 5: Choose how to handle your orders
When a customer buys a product from your store, you need to purchase it from your supplier and have it shipped to the customer. This is called order fulfillment. AutoDS offers different ways to handle this process, from fully automated to completely manual.
Which order processing method should I choose?
It depends on your priorities and how you want to run your business:
Want to save time and scale your business? Use Fulfilled by AutoDS (FBA) - our most recommended option.
Want to use your own buyer accounts? Use Auto-Order with full automation.
Want to use your own buyer accounts, but only need help with tracking? Use Auto-Order with semi-automation.
Want complete control over every order? Handle orders manually.
Option 1: Fulfilled by AutoDS (FBA) (recommended)
The Fulfilled by AutoDS (FBA) service is our most recommended option for you.
How it works: AutoDS handles everything for you. When a customer orders, AutoDS places the order with the supplier, manages payment, updates tracking, and even handles returns if needed.
Best for: Users who want to save time, scale their business, and let AutoDS handle order fulfillment professionally.
What AutoDS does:
Places orders automatically.
Tracking updates automatically.
Handles returns and refunds.
Professional order processing that protects your store's reputation.
Faster processing and tracking updates.
Additional benefits: Access to AutoDS Sourcing Service (for better pricing, faster shipping, and higher quality from suppliers), Sample Orders, AutoDS Marketplace, and Print on Demand.
Cost:
Orders Processor add-on: $9.90/month
FBA managed balance: load funds to cover order costs
Auto-Order credits: pay per order processed
Supported suppliers: Check the FBA article for the complete list.
Why we recommend this: This is our main service and the best option if you're serious about dropshipping. It saves the most time, reduces errors, and allows you to focus on growing your business instead of processing orders.
Learn more about Fulfilled by AutoDS (FBA) here.
Option 2: Auto-Order with Full Automation (your buyer account)
The Auto-Order with Full Automation service is also automated, but uses your own buyer accounts to process the orders.
How it works: You connect your Amazon or AliExpress buyer account to AutoDS. When a customer orders, AutoDS automatically places the order on the supplier's website using your account and updates tracking.
Best for: Users who want automation but prefer to use their own buyer accounts (for Prime benefits, rewards points, or maintaining purchase history).
What AutoDS does:
Places an order automatically on the supplier's website.
Processes payment through your linked account.
Tracking updates automatically.
Cost:
Orders Processor add-on: $9.90/month.
Auto-Order credits: pay per order processed.
Supported suppliers: AliExpress (multiple regions), Amazon (AU, DE, FR, UK, US).
Note: Tracking number conversion is available for Amazon orders. Returns must be handled through your own buyer account, not AutoDS.
Option 3: Auto-Order with Semi-Automation (tracking only)
The Auto-Order with Semi-Automation service uses your own buyer accounts, but the only automated service is the tracking updates.
How it works: You place orders manually, but AutoDS automatically updates the tracking number.
Best for: Users who want to control when and how orders are placed but need help keeping tracking information updated in their store.
What you do:
Place the order manually on supplier's website.
AutoDS detects shipment automatically.
AutoDS updates tracking in your store.
Cost:
Orders Processor add-on: $9.90/month.
Auto-Order credits: pay per order processed.
Supported suppliers: AliExpress (multiple regions), and Amazon (AU, DE, FR, UK, US).
Option 4: Manual Orders (complete control, no automation)
When handling your orders manually, you have no access to automation in AutoDS.
How it works: You handle everything yourself. When a customer orders, you manually place the order on the supplier's website, pay for it, copy tracking numbers, and update your store manually.
Best for: Users who want complete control over every aspect of order fulfillment and prefer to handle each step themselves without automation.
What you do:
Copy the customer's shipping address manually.
Place the order on the supplier's website.
Pay with your own payment method.
Update tracking numbers manually.
Handle returns directly with the supplier.
Cost: Free (no AutoDS fees, no add-ons required).
Step 6: Manage returns effectively and protect your business
Your buyers may request returns for various reasons, including mismatched expectations, delayed deliveries, or product quality issues. In dropshipping, you do not control inventory or shipping directly, so managing return requests effectively is essential to protect your performance.
Returns can impact your profit margins, store reputation, and account health, which is why it is important to know how to handle each request and work on reducing return rates from the beginning.
How you process returns depends on the fulfillment method you chose in Step 5. AutoDS handle returns with FBA, while Auto-Order and Manual Orders require you to hold them through your buyer account or supplier. To learn the specific return process for your method, refer to the corresponding article linked in Step 5.
Average return rate
Before applying strategies to reduce returns, it is essential to understand the normal return rate for your niche, allowing you to identify issues early and measure improvements over time.
The global e-commerce average return rate is approximately 16.9%, with a higher rate during holidays.
On AutoDS, the average return rate is capped at 5%.
Categories such as clothing and shoes typically have higher return rates due to issues with fit and sizing.
A high return rate damages reputation, increases costs, and impacts store performance across all selling channels.
Click here to learn how AutoDS calculates your return rate.
Protect your business against return fraud
Fraudulent return requests can represent a significant portion of a retailer’s losses, so tackling return fraud is critical to protecting your business and keeping your operations sustainable.
Some suppliers supported by AutoDS, such as AliExpress, require valid proof and a clear reason before accepting returns.
Others, like Amazon, have introduced stricter measures, including blacklisting customers who frequently return items, to reduce abuse and protect sellers.
Tips to protect your business:
Request photos or documentation when needed.
Work with suppliers that have strong verification processes.
Add clear and enforceable terms in your return policy.
Create clear and fair return policies
Your return policy must be clear, transparent, fair, and easy for buyers to find.
Add the return policy to your product descriptions.
Avoid vague or overly strict rules.
Align your policies with those of your suppliers if you use AutoDS automation.
Tip: For eBay sellers, setting up Business Policies correctly helps avoid errors and account suspensions. Click here to learn more about setting your policies on eBay properly.
Click here to learn more about supported suppliers and upload requirements.
Communicate with buyers to prevent returns
Communicating clearly with buyers helps prevent unnecessary returns and strengthens your relationship with customers. Not every complaint needs to end in a return, especially when the product is still usable and the issue can be addressed quickly.
Examples of alternative solutions include:
Partial refunds.
Small discounts on future orders.
Sending a replacement when appropriate.
Many customers are willing to keep the item if they feel heard and fairly compensated for it.
By resolving issues early, you reduce return rates, protect your profit margins, and turn a potentially dissatisfied buyer into a loyal customer.
Improve product quality, images, and descriptions
Improving product quality, images, and descriptions helps set the right expectations for your buyers, which directly reduces return rates and increases customer satisfaction. Unclear details or misleading visuals are some of the most common reasons for returns in e-commerce.
To reduce returns and build trust:
Use clear, high-quality images: Add high-resolution photos that show the product from multiple angles, including close-ups of important details, textures, and features.
Write accurate, detailed descriptions: Describe exactly what the customer will receive, including size, material, color, variations, and any limitations or important notes. Avoid vague or overly promotional language.
You can also use AutoDS tools to improve product quality and content before listing:
Sample Orders: Test product quality, packaging, and shipping times before you start selling to your customers.
AutoDS Image Editor: Edit product photos to add your logo, text, or visual enhancements while keeping the item accurately represented.
AI tools: Optimize product titles and descriptions to make them clearer, more descriptive, and aligned with customer expectations.
Use Fulfilled by AutoDS (FBA) to reduce returns

How does shipping work with dropshipping on AutoDS?
Shipping with dropshipping works differently from traditional retail because you don't handle products directly. Instead, suppliers ship products directly to your customers after you place orders with them.
AutoDS helps by importing the supplier’s shipping options and estimated delivery times into your product listings (depending on the integration), and updating order status and tracking details (manually or automatically).
After I sell something on my store, how do I ship it to the buyer?
After I sell something on my store, how do I ship it to the buyer?
After you make a sale in your store, you don't ship the product yourself in dropshipping. Instead, the order needs to be fulfilled with the supplier using the buyer's shipping details, and the supplier will ship the product directly to your customer.
AutoDS helps you to do this in three different ways (listed from most recommended to least recommended):
Fulfilled by AutoDS (FBA): This is the main method we recommend using whenever the supplier is supported. AutoDS handles the entire fulfillment process for you automatically: placing the order with the supplier, updating tracking information, and managing returns and refunds.
Auto-Order via your own buyer account (semi and full automation): This is the second option we recommend, and it can be used when the supplier is supported to connect your buyer account to AutoDS. AutoDS automatically places orders using your linked buyer account and updates the tracking information in your store.
Manual Orders: This option requires full manual work from your side. Without automation, you need to purchase the product yourself on the supplier’s website, enter the buyer’s address, and manually handle tracking updates and any returns or issues.
