eBay SKU Management: Remove, Add, and Troubleshoot for AutoDS
Learn how to manage SKUs on eBay to protect your products and keep them compatible with AutoDS
Introduction
Managing SKUs correctly on eBay is essential to protect your listings from competitors and to ensure smooth monitoring and automation with AutoDS.
This guide covers how to remove product identifiers from the Custom Label field, how to add SKUs to variations, and how to troubleshoot related errors.
Benefits
-
Protect your best-selling items from competitors’ research tools.
-
Ensure AutoDS can track and monitor all variations correctly.
-
Fix errors related to missing or incorrect SKUs.
Automatic SKU filling
When you first register to AutoDS, the automatic SKU filling will be turned off.
If you wish to change it, you should go to the General tab settings for each supplier you add and turn the feature off:
Settings →Supplier Settings→ General
Remove SKUs from the Custom Label field
-
Go to Seller Hub → Listings → Active.
-
Customize your table and add Custom Label to display source product identifiers.
-
Select the listings in bulk (start with the first 500).
-
On the bulk edit page, select all listings.
-
Click Edit Fields → Custom Label.
-
Choose Remove from all (⚠ do not change other fields).
-
Click Save and Close, then confirm the changes.
-
Repeat for the next batch (501–1000, 1001–1500, etc.).
Add SKUs to variations on eBay
Existing multi-variation listings without a unique SKU per variation cannot be monitored by AutoDS. When you upload via AutoDS (with variations), AutoDS assigns a unique SKU to each variation. However, if the products were uploaded by another software or directly on eBay, the variation SKU field may be empty. Changing the SKU directly on eBay can also trigger errors in AutoDS.
You will typically notice this either as an error on an already-monitored product in AutoDS or as an error on Untracked products:
-
Active Listings error:
“Error Setting OOS For Item: XXXX: Cannot revise a Multi-SKU item when Item ID alone is supplied. Variation level SKU and Item ID should be supplied to revise a Multi-SKU item” -
Untracked products error:
“No Variant SKU found. Not supported by AutoDS”
A multi-variation listing that appears as not supported can be monitored after you set a unique SKU value for each variation (on eBay, under the SKU field). Once every variation has its own value, the listing will no longer be marked unsupported and will become trackable on your Products page. If the item was already monitored and had an error, it should clear on the next scan.
Step-by-step
-
Open your active listing in eBay and click Revise your item.
-
Under Variations, click Edit.
-
On the next screen, select all variations and click Enter SKU.
-
Enter any value (any text/number works) and click Save.
-
eBay will apply the value and append extra characters to each variation to keep them unique.
-
Save the changes for the entire listing. After the next AutoDS scan, the product (and all variations) will be compatible and monitored.
