How to Fix: "AutoDS does not support custom Shopify MetaFields, please update the variation in your Shopify store. More info.” Error: Cannot set name for an option value linked to a metafield.
This issue typically arises when trying to change a product option (e.g., color, size) that is linked to a metafield in your Shopify store. Here’s how you can resolve it:
Step-by-Step Guide to Fixing the Error
Step 1: Log in to your Shopify Admin
Start by logging into your Shopify store’s admin. You can access the admin dashboard by visiting Shopify Admin.
Step 2: Navigate to “Settings”
Once logged in, look for the Settings option located at the bottom of the navigation menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
Step 3: Access the Custom Data Section
In the Settings menu, scroll down to find Custom Data. Depending on your store's setup, this section may also be labeled as Metaobjects.
Step 4: Select Metaobject Definitions
Inside the Custom Data (Metaobjects) section, click on Metaobject Definitions. This is where you manage various custom fields (like “Color” or “Size”) associated with your products.
Step 5: Locate and Delete the Problematic Metafields
Look for the metafields that are linked to the product options causing the error. Once located, you’ll need to delete or unlink these metafields to resolve the issue. Follow the steps in the screenshot flow below to remove the linked metafields:
- Go to Products in your Shopify Admin.
- Locate the metafield linked to the option (such as "Color").
- Click on the metafield and select Delete.
Step 6: Verify the Changes
After deleting the problematic metafield, return to your product page and attempt to set the option value again. The error should no longer appear, and you’ll be able to modify the product options as needed.
Note 💡
Metafields are useful for extending the capabilities of your Shopify store, but errors like this can occur when they’re linked to option values inappropriately. By following the steps above, you can remove these links and avoid future issues.
