Keyword blacklist: protect your store from VERO, brand, and copyright violations

Prevent copyright, trademark, and brand violations by using a keyword blacklist.

Introduction

Protecting your store from potential trademark violations is essential to maintaining a healthy seller account. While AutoDS provides a comprehensive VERO protection list containing thousands of restricted brands and keywords, you can enhance this protection by adding your own specific keywords and brand names to your personal blacklist.

This article explains how to add your own keywords to the blacklist.

AutoDS includes a built-in VERO Blocklist that is updated periodically. However, brand and copyright violations are highly dynamic, and no system can guarantee full protection against eBay’s VERO restrictions.

To minimize risk, we strongly recommend that you manually maintain your own Keywords Blacklist, adding any specific brands, terms, or keywords relevant to your store.

This ensures better protection, especially against newer or niche violations that automated systems may not catch in real time. This article explains how to use the Keywords Blacklist feature to help with that.

Benefits

  • Protect your store from listing products with copyrighted, trademarked, or brand-restricted terms.

  • Prevent eBay VERO violations and potential restrictions from other selling channels.

  • Avoid uploading products with high risk of takedown or intellectual property claims.

  • Save time by automatically filtering out unwanted or risky listings before they’re imported.

  • Customize your protection by blocking specific brands, terms, or sensitive keywords relevant to your business.

How to add your own keyword blacklist

To minimize risk further, maintain your own Keyword Blacklist.

  1. Go to Settings > Keywords in your AutoDS account.

  2. Click + Add Keywords.
    add keywords 1

  3. Enter each keyword or brand to restrict (one per line).

  4. Define an action for each keyword (based on where it appears in the product):

    • Do nothing – The product uploads without change

    • Don’t upload the product – Blocks the upload entirely

    • Delete from uploaded text – Removes the keyword from the title before upload

  5. Click Save to apply rules.
    add keywords 2

Upload behavior for blocked keywords

Upload Method System Behavior
Drafts If a restricted keyword is detected and the action is set to Don’t upload the product, the item will still appear in Drafts, but with a warning. You can fix the issue or choose to publish.
Imported directly to store If the action is set to Don’t upload the product, the upload will fail. The system blocks the listing due to restricted keywords in the title, description, or manufacturer fields.
